Trump Tower Wired For Wireless
June 2, 2009 - You know you’re in a sea of skyscrapers when you can’t get enough bars on your cell phone to make a call. For residents and guests of the Trump Tower, the problem was solved by installing an ADC InterReach Fusion system. With 28 floors of hotel rooms and 61 floors of condos, it took a total of 174 remote antennas that fed through the pre-wired CATV cable and linked back to the main hubs to give full coverage to the entire tower. According to an article in E-Hospitality, the Fusion system provides complete wireless service to not only all of the guest rooms, but also the restaurant, Rebar lounge, reception area, conference rooms and the 23,000 square foot spa.
Jerry Chang, IT director at Trump was quoted as saying that, “We wanted an in-building wireless system that could support all of the carriers in the area, and ADC came highly recommended by carriers and consultants. The Fusion system has eliminated service complaints from subscribers to the carriers who are on it so far, and we hope to have agreements with all other carriers soon.” Right now the system services both Verizon and Sprint users and AT&T as well as T-Mobile are expected to be added soon.
Sales at Trump Tower picked up a bit after all the legal pot shots over the Deutsche Bank loan coming due came to at least a temporary truce. Then the installation of the spire on top of the tower was both a milestone and to some, a disappointment. The last reported sales figures at this Chicago real estate project put the condos at around 75% sold and the hotel units at about 67%, according to Appraisal Research Counselors. Trump Tower has managed to have decent sales despite stiff competition from investors and other Chicago Luxury Condos that hit the market at about the same time.
